The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center was founded in 1980 as a nonprofit, multidisciplinary organization. Located in the heart of San Antonio's west side, the Guadalupe is the largest community-based, multi-disciplinary organization in the United States.
Our mission is to preserve, promote and develop the arts and culture of the Chicano/Latino/Native American peoples for all ages and backgrounds through public and educational programming in six disciplines: Dance, Literature, Media Arts, Theater Arts, Visual Arts and Xicano Music.
Each year the Guadalupe presents and produces a season of events, exhibitions and festivals, including the San Antonio CineFestival, the Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio, the San Antonio Inter-American Bookfair & Literary Festival, Hecho a Mano/Made by Hand, a season of plays by the resident youth theater company Grupo Animo, the Performing Arts Series, and productions featuring the Guadalupe Dance Company. Each of the six programs offer instructional classes from creative writing to button accordion and ballet folklorico for beginners to master workshops in all the disciplines.

Since opening five decades ago, the McNay Art Museum continues to build on an already strong collection of 19th- and 20th-century European and American paintings and sculpture by significant artists ranging from Paul Cezanne, Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Rodin, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso, to Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, John Sloan, and Marsden Hartley. The McNay is closed Mondays. Admission is free.

The Southwest School of Art is a nationally-recognized leader in arts education, offering studio programs for more than 4000 adults, children and teens annually. Classes and workshops are taught by outstanding local, regional and national artists in state-of-the-art facilities; the school offers a certificate program for professional artists and craftspersons.
The school also organizes contemporary art exhibitions, lectures and concerts, as well as houses a history-based Visitors Center Museum , a Gallery Shop and a lunch café. During a typical year, more than 225,000 people attend events, view exhibits, take classes or visit the historic site.

A three-story sculpted structure by artist Carlos Cortes is located on the west bank of the downtown Riverwalk, at the intersection of Newell avenue and Camden street. Walk across the bridges on either street, and take the stairs down to the Grotto.
